Jack and his wife Janet moved to Pinehurst in 2010 to make the Village their retirement home.  No stranger to Pinehurst, Jack’s connection with the community started in 1958 when his parents purchased a Cottage in the Village and his family moved to Pinehurst shortly thereafter.  Although Jack’s professional career took him away, he remained closely connected to Pinehurst for the 30 years his family continued to live in the Village.

Farrell’s 40 year professional career with IBM, Consolidated Railroad (Conrail) and Wyeth Pharmaceutical Research primarily focused on management of IT systems, application development, worldwide telecommunications networks and IT domestic and international technical support organizations.  At Conrail and Wyeth Jack held senior IT management positions responsible for developing company-wide IT architecture and strategic IT plans.  Jack completed his professional career as a senior consultant with Biomedical Computer Research Institute.

Since moving to Pinehurst Jack has been active in a number of community organizations and Village affairs including volunteering at the Tufts Archives, president of a HOA, Director for the Pinehurst Civic Group, serving on the Historic Preservation Commission, HPC guidelines rewrite committee, Planning and Zoning Board, and Board of Adjustment.  In addition, Jack was appointed to fill a Village Council vacancy from 2018-2019.  As a student of Village history,

Farrell has also given a number of presentations on the history of the Village and authored “A Guide the Historic Village of Pinehurst” and the 125th commemorative booklet “The Founding of the Village of Pinehurst.”

Jack received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a MBA from Lehigh University and served in the U.S. Army as a radio telegraph cryptograph operator, completing his military service with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
