Home to many United States active duty military personnel and veterans, Pinehurst has established the Village of Honor Project, lining the streets of Pinehurst with United States flags for the Memorial Day, Independence Day, September 11th, and Veteran's Day holidays. Each flag honors an active duty soldier or veteran, living or deceased.

Flag sponsors will receive a certificate suitable for framing (pictured below) that highlights the name of their veteran and explains the Village of Honor Project.
