Sandhills Woman's Exchange Re-Opens

SEPTEMBER 7 -   The Sandhills Woman’s Exchange in the Village of Pinehurst reopens for it’s 94th year as a lunch venue and NC artisan gift shop at 15 Azalea Road.  The 1810 log cabin will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays for the fall season from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 80 NC artisans display and sell their wares in the cabin gift shop. Totally staffed by volunteers for the shop and lunchroom, the cabin is especially in need of waitresses during this new season for a 3 hour time slot.  Interested volunteers may contact Karen Lehto for more information at 910-295-4677.

SEPTEMBER 17 -  Guest Chef Jason Howk will be cooking breakfast for lunch at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange, 15 Azalea Road in Pinehurst, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Howk is a Major retired after serving 23 years in the Army. Working in Afghanistan for over a decade, he began as an enlisted Infantry paratrooper, combat engineer and Foreign Area Officer. During that time, he spent much of his time working in or studying Muslim countries across the Middle East. Major Howk was awarded the Legion of Merit and 2 Bronze Star Medals from the US Department of Defense along with the Afghanistan Governmental 2nd Degree Success Medal from President Karzai.  For more information, call 910-295-4677. 

SEPTEMBER 20 – ‘100 Years of Wedding Dresses’ fashion show will be presented by the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange in the Cardinal Ballroom of the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst.  This afternoon teatime show from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. will feature 20 plus wedding dresses from 1910 to present day.   Guests may also participate in the 50/50 drawing and silent auction for the $40 per person ticket.  For reservations, please call Alice Robbins at 910-949-3134 or Karen Lehto at 910-295-4677. 

OCTOBER 6 – Raleigh News & Observer columnist Barry Saunders will be at a 5 p.m.wine n’ cheese evening event at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange, 15 Azalea Road, in Pinehurst.  Saunders will be discussing his column, answering questions and signing his books.   Reservations may be made by calling 910-295-4677 for $25 per person tickets. 

OCTOBER 22 -  Artist Beth E. Roy will be giving a two-hour art appreciation/demonstration at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange, 15 Azalea Road, in Pinehurst beginning at 10 a.m.  Tickets for the program and lunch are $25 per person.  Reservations may be made by calling 910-295-4677. 

NOVEMBER 10 Joe Grant with Star Works Glass will be the luncheon lecture speaker at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange, 15 Azalea Road, in Pinehurst beginning at 10:30 a.m.  The program will feature his hand-blown glass works, discussion and lunch for the $25 per person ticket.  Reservations may be made by calling 910-295-4677. 

DECEMBER 8 – Actor/writer Joyce Reehling will the the 5 p.m. wine n’ cheese guest speaker at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange, 15 Azalea Road, in Pinehurst.  Reehling is a Pinehurst resident who retired from New York after a 33-year career in theater, TV and commercials.  Reservations for the $25 per person ticket may be made by calling 910-295-4677.

DECEMBER 10 – Santa & Mrs.Claus will be arriving at the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange somewhere around noon sleigh time for a visit with the children until 2:30 p.m.  NC children’s authors may be on hand to read from their books and sign them too.  For more information, call 910- 295-4677 for the free event in the Village of Pinehurst.
