In June 2016, the Village of Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department turned on the water to a brand new Splash Pad located in Rassie Wicker Park and it has been a big success! The Splash Pad is approximately 8,000 square feet of fun, including the pad and surrounding apron. Water features include 30 floor geysers, 10 bollards, a big bucket water dump, and a rain shower curtain. The Splash Pad is surrounded by two brick sitting walls and a large picnic shelter. Aquatic Resources Group in Charlotte developed the design and constructed the Splash Pad, using a recirculating system with a holding tank of 3,000 gallons of water.

Where is the Splash Pad located?

The Splash Pad is in Rassie Wicker Park, which is located at 10 Rassie Wicker Drive, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Click here for directions.

When does the Splash Pad open/close for the season?

The Splash Pad will open Friday, May 17 for the 2024 season. The Splash Pad will close temporarily on Sunday, June 9th and reopen on Wednesday, June 19 due to the US Open. On Sunday, September 22 at 7:30pm the Splash Pad will close for the 2024 season.

What are the hours of operation of the Splash Pad?

Operating hours for 2024 will be 10:00am – 7:30pm daily.

How much does it cost?

FREE! There is no admission charge to use the Splash Pad.

Can we make reservations?

Reservations are not accepted at the Splash Pad, shelter or picnic tables. These areas are on a first come, first served basis. Please be respectful of others as we all try to enjoy the fun in the sun.

What is the proper attire?

•  Swim diapers are required for our diaper-wearing customers.
•  Rubber sole shoes/water shoes are strongly recommended.
•  Appropriate swim or street attire is required to use the splash pad.

Are there changing tables in the restrooms?

Yes, there are changing tables in the male and female restrooms.

What time is the Concession Stand open?

The concession stand is currently closed.

Can we bring our own food?

Yes, you can bring your own food and drinks (non-alcoholic). Please use plastic containers instead of glass. Broken glass and bare feet do not mix.

Are grills allowed?

Grills are not allowed in Rassie Wicker Park, which includes the Splash Pad and shelter areas. This includes all varieties of grills no matter their power source.

Are birthday parties, camps or groups allowed?

Yes, birthday parties, camps and other groups are allowed at the Splash Pad, however, we encourage you to contact the Pinehurst Parks and Recreation Department at 910-295-2817 or parksandrec@vopnc.org before you plan your outing. Reservations are not allowed as the Splash Pad, shelter and picnic tables are on a first come, first served basis.

Can I decorate for a party/event?

We do not allow decorations at the shelter or around the Splash Pad area.

Are there electrical outlets?

There are no electrical outlets available at the shelter, Splash Pad or concession stand area. Portable generators are not allowed.

Can I bring my own pop up tent and chairs?

Yes, you may bring your own pop up tent and chairs. You may utilize your tent in the grassy area close to the soccer field. We ask that you do not stake the tent in the ground, as there are several underground pipes and wiring that we do not want damaged. There is seating under the shelter for approximately 40 people. There are also three picnic tables with umbrellas around the Splash Pad and two sitting walls along the Splash Pad’s apron.

Can I bring my own water toys?

No need to bring water toys. There are plenty of great water features to keep you busy. You may enjoy the playground adjacent to the Splash Pad or open grassy areas throughout the park as well.

Is the splash pad wheelchair accessible?

Yes! There is a concrete path from the parking lot to the shelter and Splash Pad area. The Splash Pad itself has a concrete surface. The Splash Pad has several water features that spray water at all different heights, from low to the ground to upwards of 10 feet high.

Is the water safe?

Yes! Sanitation methods include a water filtration system to remove pollutants, disinfection (chlorine-based) to kill microorganisms. The water is tested every day by a Certified Pool Operator to make sure the water levels are safe for your enjoyment. Enjoy the water but please do not climb on the equipment, drink the water, spit or spout the water from your mouth.

Is there a lifeguard/staff on duty?

Since the Splash Pad does not have any standing water, a lifeguard is not required. The Splash Pad is treated just like a playground and does not have a full time attendant on duty. What if I hear thunder or see lighting?

At the first sign of thunder or lightning, vacate the splash pad and seek shelter.

Are pets allowed?

We love pets, but please keep them out of the splash pad area.

Are bikes, rollerblades or skateboards allowed on the Splash Pad?

Bikes, skateboards, skates and similar recreation equipment must be left outside the splash pad area.

What is the size of the splash pad and how many gallons of water does it use?

The department hired Chris Moseley, manager of Aquatic Resources Group in Charlotte, to develop the design and construct the splash pad, which is a recirculating system with a holding tank of 3,000 gallons of water.

How often does the water bucket dump?

Time varies throughout the season but on average, the bucket dumps about every three to four minutes.

Can I still utilize the shelter/splash pad area out of season?

You may still utilize the shelter area. The shelter is open for use, year round.
